Specifically designed for training in scuba diving Koh Tao, our oval-shaped pool—measuring 14 meters long and 11 meters wide—is the only saltwater pool on the island. Nang Yuan pinnacle and cave

This is a pinnacle dive of 20-24m suitable for all levels. Whip coral, sea fans, blue spotted stingray and many groupers can be seen regularly. Occasionally turtles are found among the coral or near the pinnacle.

Twins

Two groups of small rocks situated at 10-18m. Grouper, clownfish and stingrays are common but many more can be seen like pipefish, moray and flatworms. In the crevices are many angelfish and above you might see some squid or the juvenile sweet lips.

With Rock

Two groups of rocks with a sand bed between laying at 9-24m. Plenty of stag horn coral with porcupine fish and maybe a hidden scorpion fish. You can see turtles and sea snakes as well as some of the bigger titan triggerfish.

Hin Wong

A very large site ranging from 10-32m with varied scenery. There is a resident turtle who will go about her business if left alone. Otherwise grouper, filefish, snapper and a plethora of corals can be seen. Look hard and you can find colorful nudibranchs.

Green Rock

Stunning rock formations and caves lying at 4-28m lots of nudibranchs and moray eels. Harlequin sweetlips and blue ringed angelfish can be seen as well as a rare glimpse of a white tip reef shark the trigger pit is where many yellow margin and titan triggerfish have made their nests.

Shark Island

Just off the southeast coast, this is a very varied site ranging from the surface 24m. Amazing soft coral formations and tons of marine life such as the puffer fish and blue spotted fantail rays. Whale shark and even leopard sharks can be seen here also on good days.

Sail rock

Half way between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan is a rock breaking the surface going to 45m. This dive site has a chimney you can swim through from 18-8m. The whole site is packed with fantastical things to see. Whale sharks and octopus can be found here.

Southwest pinnacle

More a series of differing sized pinnacles laying at 4-30m with the main one in the middle. The top layers are covered in anemones of pinks and blues. Occasionally whale sharks and leopard sharks can be seen here.

Chumphon Pinnacle

The site is almost one long complete pinnacle with a huge fissure toward the south end, large enough to pass through. Crabs, Shrimps, Scorpionfish and white-Eyes Moray Eels hide in the many fissures

FAQ

What does it feel like to breathe underwater?

The gentle hiss of the air as you breathe in and out. The bubbles and warm water around you. The feeling of calmness, peace and quiet. The underwater world is full of light, color and life. The corals are beautiful and the fish will be close enough to touch (of course you shouldn’t). It’s amazing and it’s so much fun.

Who can learn to dive?

Almost anybody. The minimum age is 10 years old. There is no maximum age. You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete but you do need to be generally fit and healthy.

Do I need to get a medical certificate?

As a beginner we need to make sure that you are fit for diving. Please read the questions on Page 1 of this medical statement. If you can answer ‘no’ to every question you don’t need to see a doctor. If you answer ‘yes’ to any question you will need to see a doctor before you can dive. The doctor should complete Page 2. You can visit a doctor in your home country or we can help you to find a doctor here in Bali. The doctor doesn’t need to be a diving specialist.

Is it dangerous?

No it isn’t. Scuba diving is a safe and fun family activity. Just listen to your Instructor and follow the safety rules.

Are there any dangerous sharks?

There are no dangerous sharks. If you are lucky you may see a shark but it will be more frightened of you.

Can I run out of air?

It’s possible but very unlikely. You and your Instructor can easily check your air supply. It’s like reading the petrol gauge on a car. For extra safety we always end a scuba dive with at least 25% in the tank (that’s enough spare air for about 15 minutes dive time).

What happens if I feel claustrophobic?

As a beginner you will always be close to your instructor. If you feel claustrophobic just signal to your Instructor and you will go together to the surface. The Tarna Dive Resort have Instructors that have managed all types of situations for thousands of students. You will be guided underwater in the safest and most comfortable way dependent on your own level of confidence. You are in great hands and this is your chance to overcome any prospective adversity.As a beginner you will always be close to your instructor. Will my ears hurt?

Sometimes on a flight or diving down to the bottom of a swimming pool you may feel pain. This is because the air pressure is increasing and squeezing your ears. This won’t be a problem while you are diving because your Instructor will teach you a simple technique to prevent this (called ‘equalisation’). You’ll be able to use this technique on flights and in the swimming pool too!

Can I dive during my monthly menstruation period?

Yes you can. If you can do normal daily activities during your monthly period then you can dive during menstruation too. For further questions feel free to contact our female staff.

Can I dive if I wear glasses?

The best option is to wear soft contact lenses while you are diving. Another option is to rent from us a scuba diving mask with prescription lenses (however please note we have a limited range of dive mask prescription lenses).

Is it cold?

Not here in Koh Tao. The temperature is usually around 27C (80F) though it can sometimes be colder. You will be wearing one of our wetsuits anyway which will protect you from the cold.

Can I dive if I suffer from seasickness?

You won’t be taking any long boat trips. Just in case we do have seasickness medicine available.

What happens if rains during the course?

We scuba divers are very lucky because it never rains underwater. It’s no problem to dive while it is raining on the surface because it doesn’t affect divers below.

How long will I dive?

Each dive will be about 30- 60 minutes.

Do I need my own scuba diving equipment?

No you don’t. All rental scuba gear and a towel is included in the price. You just need to bring a swimsuit.

Will I be in a big group?

The Tarna Dive Resort specializes in individual care and large groups. We will cater to your group/individual requirements.

Can my Instructor speak English?

All the The Tarna Dive Resort Instructors speak excellent English.

Can I communicate with my Instructor underwater?

Yes you can. As a beginner one of the first things you will learn is how to make underwater signals before your dive begins.

Can I dive in Koh Tao at any time of year?

Yes you can.

Is insurance included?

Yes it is. You can ask other dive centers if they use any insurance at all or if they use a local Thai insurance policy.

Can I get any photo or video of my first ever scuba diving experience?
